Ian was born in Queensland in the 70’s and in his early years was variously employed as a milk-bar cook, strawberry picker and barnyard waste-disposal technician. Accolades in these fields failed to follow, and, suspecting that none of these vocations would lead to a meaningful and rewarding career, he fleetingly set his sights on becoming either a dentist or Naval recruit.

It was while he was day-dreaming at school that a stills camera was thrust into his hands, and he was directed to take some pictures for the school magazine. Deciding that taking some photos was preferable to detention, he embarked on his first assignment to photograph the tuck-shop ladies. That was in 1985, and he’s rarely been without a camera since.

Ian’s 20+ year career in imaging has taken him all over the world and has seen his work published on media from billboards to the front of the world’s newspapers and magazines as well as commissioned television commercials. His drive to capture moments that only a still photograph can represent has earned him first place in over 10 photographic awards, and he was the first photographer to be awarded the UK Picture Editors Guild Photographer of the Year title three times, a record which stood for over a decade.

Transitioning to moving images was a natural progression after becoming dangerously obsessed with time lapse photography, and Ian is now an accomplished videographer and Director of Photography, applying his eye and style to the moving image. Ian also holds a ReOC from CASA, meaning he is a licensed and fully insured drone and UAV operator.

Working with speed but with an attention to detail remain embedded in Ian’s work ethic and interpreting a brief while maintaining his individual style is a challenge he relishes.

Now based once again in his native habitat of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Ian has been commissioned as an advertising and commercial photographer and videographer in Australia and abroad by companies and agencies such as NIDA, ANZ, NAB, Air Pacific, Stockland, Cathay Pacific, CNH Industrial, Transurban, KFC, Krispy Kreme, Prime Minister and Cabinet to name just a few.
