Ian was born in 1970 in Queensland and has since been employed variously as a milk-bar cook, strawberry picker and barnyard waste-disposal technician. Awards, accolades and promotions in these fields then failed to follow, and, suspecting that none of these vocations would lead to a meaningful and rewarding career, he fleetingly set his sights on becoming either a dentist or Naval recruit.

It was then that a stills camera was thrust into his hands at school, and ordered to take some pictures for the school magazine. Deciding that taking some photos was preferable to detention, he embarked on his first assignment. That was in 1985, and he's rarely been without a camera since.

Ian's 20+ year career in photography has taken him all over the world and has seen his work published on media from billboards to the world's newspapers and magazines as well as commissioned television commercials. His drive to capture moments that only a still photograph can represent has earned him first place in over 10 photographic awards, and he remains the only photographer to be awarded the UK Picture Editors Guild Photographer of the Year title three times.

Working with speed but with an attention to detail remain embedded in Ian's work ethic, and interpreting a brief while maintaining his individual style is a challenge he relishes.

Now based in Sydney, Ian has been commissioned as an advertising and commercial photographer in Australia and abroad by companies and agencies such as NIDA, ANZ, NAB, Air Pacific, Stockland, Prime Minister and Cabinet to name a few.

Adding to his skills and diverse portfolio of still images, Ian also shoots HD time-lapse and stop-motion imagery. Projects from hours to years can be captured in this format, and Ian adds a cinematic touch to the final cut allowing for usage anywhere from presentations, TVCs, or cinema.
